I Gave Birth to My Son 5 Years Ago, and Now I Want to Do a DNA Test on Him, Here’s Why

When it comes to being a parent, there are situations where couples decide to do a DNA test on their children.

This can sometimes cause family drama, and it’s often the father who insists on a paternity test.

But in some cases, it’s the mother who feels the need to initiate it.

We recently received a letter from a woman who is a mother of three and is absolutely sure that she must do a DNA test on her five-year-old son.

Let’s hear her story.

Meeting the Anonymous Woman

A 35-year-old woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, reached out to us to share her story.

In her letter, she mentioned, “Hi Bright Side, I’ve been following your page for a while now and find it to be a trustworthy source where people can freely express their opinions.

I’ve often given advice and shared my thoughts on different situations that people have shared in your stories.

But now, I find myself in a situation where I need the opinion of your audience, but it’s something I can hardly discuss with my family.”

The woman started her story by saying, “I have been happily married to my husband for over 10 years.

We have three wonderful kids. When we found out that we were expecting again five years ago, we were overjoyed.

Having children is something we couldn’t imagine a happy family without, so we were eagerly anticipating the arrival of our new family member.”

A Challenging Pregnancy Journey

The woman then went on to share her challenging pregnancy journey. She explained, “My pregnancy was high-risk, with a severe chance of miscarriage and complications. The doctors were very concerned about my health throughout the entire pregnancy. Despite the worries, I tried to stay calm, and with immense support from my husband, I remained optimistic and focused on the positive aspects.”

She then spoke about the difficult delivery process. “The birth of my son was not easy due to complications. They had to take him away from us for a while before we could even see him. In that moment, I started having doubts.”

Doubts and Concerns
The woman admitted, “I feel guilty for even having those thoughts, but I couldn’t ignore them. I was groggy and overwhelmed, but it crossed my mind, ‘Whose child is this?’”

She explained further, “When they finally brought our baby boy back to us, it was a mix of relief and confusion. They placed a chubby, adorable baby in my arms, but he looked nothing like my other kids or any of the other babies in our extended family.”

The woman added, “Our other children had fair skin, slim figures, and resembled each other. But our son was completely different. As the years passed, he didn’t show any resemblance to our family.”

Lingering Thoughts
The mother continued, “There are no physical similarities between my youngest son and the rest of our family. Not in his eyes, lips, smile, hands, feet, or even personality. While this can happen in families, I’ve always wondered. However, I love him unconditionally. Recently, he was diagnosed with a heartbreaking disease.”

She revealed, “This is a condition that should have shown up somewhere in our family, but it hasn’t. Now, I can’t help but wonder if he might be someone else’s child. Should I secretly get a DNA test to find out if there are any other health issues we should be aware of? But I don’t know what I would do with that information. What would happen if I discovered that my son is not biologically mine? Should I pursue a family history? Should I tell him or the rest of the family? Should I involve the hospital?”

A Decision to be Made
As we listened to this story, it became clear that it’s a complex and emotional situation. The woman’s partner has requested a DNA test, which she has agreed to. However, she has already made a decision about what she’ll do when the results come in.

This is a difficult journey for the woman, and she needs advice and support. We believe that by sharing her story, she’ll find the help she needs. If you have any words of wisdom or experiences to share, please leave
