Pope Francis is in critical condition after a severe
asthmatic respiratory crisis on Saturday morning.
He required high-flow oxygen and a blood transfusion for anemia.
Despite being in more pain, he remains alert.
The 88-year-old pontiff’s condition is still serious,
and his prognosis is “reserved.” His health has been complicated by pneumonia,
and he will remain hospitalized for at least another week.
Pope Francis, born Jorge Mario Bergoglio in 1936 in Buenos Aires,
became the 266th pope in 2013. Known for his focus on social justice,
poverty, and environmental issues, he has been an advocate for humility,
mercy, and reform within the Church.
